A Quiet Life in Trà Vinh Before America
Before I moved to America, my world was a small farm, my parents, and a life I thought would never change.
My name is Nhung.
I was born and raised in Trà Vinh, a peaceful province in southern Vietnam.
Before I got married, I lived with my parents and helped take care of our home, garden, and family pond. I also helped my brother-in-law with shrimp farming.
My life was simple and quiet.
I was a shy person and did not know much about the world outside my hometown. Most of my time was spent helping my family and caring for my parents.
I never imagined that one day I would leave Vietnam and move to America.
Everything began to change when smartphones and social media became more common.
For the first time, I could see people and places far beyond my small corner of Vietnam.
The world suddenly seemed much bigger than I had ever imagined.
One day, while exploring online, I discovered a dating website.
I never expected that simple discovery would completely change the direction of my life.
At that time, I had no plans to move to America.
I did not speak English.
I was shy and lacked confidence.
The idea of living overseas felt impossible.
Looking back now, I realize that my quiet life in Trà Vinh gave me something valuable: a deep appreciation for family, hard work, and simple happiness.
Those lessons would later help me face the challenges of building a new life in America.
At the time, however, I had no idea what was waiting for me.
I was simply a woman from Trà Vinh living an ordinary life with the people I loved.
